South Lanarkshire Council has started work on a mix of 44 new-build properties on a vacant plot in Cairnswell Avenue. The scheme comprises 10 four-bedroom semi-detached homes, 16 three-bedroom homes and 18 two-bedroom semi-detached homes.
The council has contracted Ashleigh (Scotland) Ltd to deliver the project, which has been procured via Hub South West. The homes are being designed to meet a range of local needs, including accommodation for larger families, and are located close to schools and community amenities to support everyday living.
The programme is being funded jointly by South Lanarkshire Council and the Scottish Government's Affordable Housing Supply Programme.
Work was formally marked at a ground-breaking event attended by the depute chair of the council's Housing and Technical Resources Committee, Councillor Margaret Cowie, alongside council officers and representatives from Ashleigh (Scotland) and Hub South West.
Councillor Cowie said: "I'm delighted that we are once again delivering on improving the availability of high-quality social housing across South Lanarkshire.
"This mixture of housing will be a welcome addition to the council's housing stock in this area.
"We are committed to providing a variety of social housing that meets the needs of local people, while maintaining affordability and value for money."
Managing Director of Ashleigh (Scotland) Limited, Euan Clark, said: "We are delighted to get started on the Cairnswell development in Cambuslang for South Lanarkshire Council through Hub South West.
"Projects like this allow us to provide a range of employment and supply chain opportunities, along with targeted benefits for the local community.
"There is a well-documented housing emergency and it is great to see South Lanarkshire Council addressing this with projects such as this one – we look forward to working with the council and Hub South West teams along with LMA Architects and Clancy Engineering."
The homes are expected to complete in early 2027 and will be allocated in line with the council's Housing Allocation Policy.
