Great British Energy (GBE) has confirmed Marischal Square in Aberdeen city centre as its permanent headquarters, cementing the Granite City's role at the heart of the UK's energy transition.

The Aberdeen City Council-owned development has been identified as a modern, central workplace suitable for a growing organisation. The space will be leased and managed by the Government Property Agency (GPA), which oversees most of the UK government's office estate.

GBE's HQ will accommodate its core corporate functions, supply chain activity and major development programmes, including ambitions in deep-water offshore wind. The organisation is working with partners to attract talent and support investment and job creation in the region. Recruitment is under way, with a wider campaign to launch this year.

GBE currently operates from the AB1 building and plans to relocate to Marischal Square later in 2026.

Energy Minister Michael Shanks said: "With Great British Energy's new permanent headquarters confirmed in Aberdeen, Scotland's world-class energy expertise and talent will be central to unlocking investment in clean energy and creating jobs, both in the city and across the whole of the UK.

"Aberdeen has been central to the country's energy sector for decades, and the government's clean energy mission is continuing the city's legacy of powering Britain."

Mark Bourgeois, the GPA's CEO, said: "We are proud to have secured this space for Great British Energy in Aberdeen, underlining our commitment to creating a government office estate that enables its workforce to be as productive as possible in every nation and region of the UK.

"As well as being its permanent home, Marischal Square will provide the company with a workplace that is both modern and collaborative – supporting the performance of its staff."

Aberdeen City Council City Co-Leader Councillor Ian Yuill said: "Aberdeen is at the forefront of the transition in the energy sector while ensuring the security of the existing oil and gas chain.

"We welcome GB Energy to the city as part of this essential work to the economy which is vital not only for the securing the expertise locally but good for the future energy needs of the country."
