ScottishPower's distribution businesses have been highlighted by Ofgem for strong, sector-leading performance as they invest heavily to modernise the grid.
In its latest annual report, covering the second year of the RIIO-ED2 price control, the regulator assessed distribution network operators on reliability, customer service, the environment, innovation and expenditure. SP Energy Networks (SPEN) and SP Electricity North West (SP ENW) featured prominently across the measures.
Between 2023 and 2028, SPEN and SP ENW will invest more than £5 billion in their regional electricity networks. Ofgem's reliability assessment placed the companies first and second after they cut both the number and duration of power cuts experienced by customers. They also ranked in the top three for customer satisfaction and for delivering for vulnerable customers, with steady improvements driving high scores.
The report further notes that both companies are on track to manage asset risks as expected over the five-year price control period.
Nicola Connelly, CEO of SPEN, said: "It's encouraging to see the positive progress and tangible impact of our ED2 investment recognised by Ofgem across all three of our DNOs as we work to deliver the modern, resilient and reliable electricity network our customers and communities need.
"There's lots more to do to, which is why we're continuing to work with the regulator to deliver against our ambitious £5.3 billion investment plans, create jobs and opportunities, and help steer the nation towards a cleaner and greener future."
Stephanie Trubshaw, Chief Operating Officer for SP ENW said: "We're delighted our strong performance has been recognised. We're now halfway through our five-year £2 billion investment programme, which is delivering huge improvements that are being recognised by our customers. We're speeding up domestic customer connections, continuing to invest in good jobs and delivering high satisfaction, which is exactly what we set out to do in this business plan."
