Repair Works Progress At Helensburgh Leisure Centre

Repair efforts are moving forward at Helensburgh Leisure Centre, with the first deliveries of materials for the permanent roof arriving on-site last week.

To accommodate the large-scale supplies, the existing site compound has been expanded. Despite these changes, access to all four electric vehicle (EV) charging points remains open, though recycling bins have been moved to a new location just outside the access gate.

The project team has completed several critical assessments, including internal Building Condition Surveys and Mechanical and Electrical Condition Surveys. Currently, experts are conducting fire assessment surveys and detailed inspections of the building's structural steelwork.

While progress is being made, the complexity of the repairs means the original target of re-opening by the end of March 2026 will not be met. Project leads cited several factors for the delay, including the necessary re-design of the roof, the significant time required to erect extensive scaffolding, and lengthy lead times for specialized materials.

Local councillors recently visited the site to inspect the scale of the damage and the recovery work required. At this stage, a new opening date has not been set, as key survey results and tendering processes are still being finalised.

A spokesperson for the project stated that they are working closely with insurers and contractors to ensure the facility re-opens as soon as it is safe to do so. The team has committed to providing public updates at least once a month, with additional progress reports and photographs to be released as milestones are reached.
