AC Whyte Completes Latest Aberdeen EES:ABS Phase In Sheddocksley

AC Whyte has completed the latest phase of the Energy Efficient Scotland: Area Based Schemes (EES:ABS) in Sheddocksley, Aberdeen, continuing its multi‑year partnership with Aberdeen City Council and Changeworks.

Since 2022, the contractor has worked with the council to deliver external wall insulation (EWI) and related energy efficiency upgrades to 365 homes across Dyce, Bridge of Don, Northfield and Mastrick. The wider programme has increased home comfort, lowered heating costs, cut carbon emissions and supported local supply chains and community outcomes.

In the 2024/25 phase, a further 28 homes in Sheddocksley were upgraded in works valued at around £578,000. The scope covered EWI across mixed-construction property types, including No-Fines and timber frame homes, to improve thermal performance, reduce heat loss and help bring down fuel bills for residents.

Community benefits delivered over the three-year contract included working with six local suppliers and subcontractors, creating four new jobs for Aberdeen residents, and offering two structured work placements. The programme also made a £1,000 donation to a local community centre to support residents experiencing food and fuel poverty, and teams took part in a community litter pick.

Mark Shaw, Senior Energy Officer (Domestic) at Aberdeen City Council, said: "Since 2022, Aberdeen City Council and AC Whyte have collaborated to deliver Scottish Government-funded EES:ABS projects with excellent results. Working closely with AC Whyte and Changeworks, we successfully maximised customer engagement and funding, enabling 337 residents to benefit from new external wall insulation and energy efficiency improvements. These upgrades have enhanced home comfort and helped reduce fuel bills for our residents. We have been impressed with AC Whyte's professionalism, commitment and performance throughout."

Kenneth Fraser, Programme Manager at Changeworks, said: "As Managing Agent's for works on Aberdeen City Council EES: ABS programme, we have enjoyed working in partnership with the Council and AC Whyte to deliver external wall insulation measures to benefit householders in the City. The households are now living in homes that are easier to heat, have improved comfort levels and will see savings on their energy bills. Furthermore, the reduced energy required to heat the homes has the environmental improvement of reducing their CO2 emissions."

The Aberdeen EES:ABS programme highlights the delivery of large-scale retrofit at pace, combining technical performance with resident engagement and measurable carbon savings, while contributing to Scotland's net-zero ambitions.
