Galliford Try Fabrications Manager Secures Scottish Ex-Forces Award

Pam McNeill, Business Assurance Manager at Galliford Try Fabrications, has been named the winner of the Engineering Excellence category at the Scottish Ex-Forces in Business Awards.

The prestigious event is part of the world's largest programme celebrating the achievements of military veterans in civilian roles and the significant value they contribute to the private sector.

McNeill's success follows a distinguished 23-year military career as a metalsmith in the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers (REME). Her service included the fabrication and repair of complex armoured vehicle components in high-pressure environments, as well as serving as a Platoon Sergeant. Since joining Galliford Try, she has seen rapid professional growth, earning a promotion to Business Assurance Manager only four months after her arrival. In her current role, she is credited with enhancing operational efficiency, quality assurance, and compliance.

The awards ceremony also saw Galliford Try receive a "Highly Commended" status for Employer of the Year. This recognition highlights the firm's dedication to the Armed Forces community, having progressed from Silver to Gold Award status under the Armed Forces Covenant within a single year.

The latest accolade follows McNeill's previous success at the British Ex-Forces in Business Awards earlier this year, where both she and the company received high commendations.

Reflecting on her win, Pam McNeill said: "It was an absolute honour just to be nominated. These awards highlight the highly transferable skills that Forces personnel bring, and I hope they encourage more organisations to employ veterans and reservists, and like Galliford Try, develop their own Military programmes, and engage with Career Transition Partnership events. By doing so, we can help open doors for Forces personnel and make the terrifying transition into civilian life a little less intimidating."

Craig Smith, Operations Director at Galliford Try Fabrications, added: "Pam's rise within our organisation has been nothing short of extraordinary. Her professionalism, technical expertise and resilience, particularly through personal challenges, make her an outstanding ambassador for veterans in business. She's a true asset to Galliford Try and an inspiration to others making the transition from service life."

Smith further noted: "At the same time, being Highly Commended for Employer of the Year highlights our wider commitment to supporting veterans, reservists and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers across the business. These nominations reflect the strength of our culture and our shared belief in helping talented people from all backgrounds build successful civilian careers."
