SP Energy Networks has been announced as the headline sponsor for the Scottish Apprenticeship Awards 2026. The partnership underscores the company’s long-standing dedication to cultivating a diverse and skilled local workforce across Scotland.

The sponsorship announcement coincides with the company’s most ambitious recruitment initiative to date. As part of a multi-billion pound investment in transmission and distribution networks over the next decade, SP Energy Networks is seeking to expand its workforce to support Britain’s transition to an all-electric future.

The firm currently supports more than 260 apprentices, with an additional 120 positions set to be filled this year. Available roles range from traditional frontline operational tasks, such as overhead line work and fitting, to modern technical careers in data science, software engineering, and project management.

Jennifer Davies, Workforce Renewal Manager at SP Energy Networks, highlighted the community impact of the programme: "The beauty of our apprenticeship programme is that we’re recruiting in the very communities we serve. From Cupar to Canonbie, with depots across the country, we’re creating jobs in towns and villages where we are often one of the biggest employers. That means people can stay close to home while building a career that can span decades."

Celebrating Excellence The awards ceremony, scheduled to take place at the Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow on Thursday 26 February, will serve as the launch event for Scottish Apprenticeship Week.

Among the finalists is Alice Fairbairn, an apprentice fitter with SP Energy Networks, who has been shortlisted for Modern Apprentice of the Year (Level 6+). Beyond her technical role in network maintenance and fault repairs, Fairbairn has been recognised for her resilience during major storm responses and her work as a mentor for new starters.
