Simera Sense Expands Into Glasgow's East End

European satellite camera manufacturer Simera Sense has announced the opening of a new high-value electronics assembly laboratory and office in Dalmarnock.

The facility, located at the flagship EastWorks building, marks a significant expansion for the company, which already maintains a global presence with sites in France, Belgium, and South Africa.

The move is expected to create 20 highly skilled roles in the region, further establishing EastWorks as a premier Deep Tech Hub. Simera Sense joins a growing cluster of technology and advanced manufacturing firms in the area, including Utopi, HyImpulse, Acumen Cyber, BRE, and Verdant Energy.

EastWorks, originally a Victorian gas purifier shed, underwent a comprehensive transformation led by Clyde Gateway and was completed in 2023. The building is now fully let, housing the Red Tree flexible workspace and the Vin 18 café, forming a central part of the regeneration of Dalmarnock Cross.

Craig Ritchie, Project Manager at Clyde Gateway, said: "Clyde Gateway's vision is to make Dalmarnock, Rutherglen and Bridgeton a great place to live, work and play. We have already made huge progress with over 4,000 new homes built, 8,000 jobs created, and award-winning greenspaces for residents to enjoy.

"Attracting innovative businesses like Simera Sense is central to our regeneration strategy. The growing cluster of tech firms at EastWorks demonstrates that Clyde Gateway is now a recognised hub for deep tech, space and clean energy innovation, creating high-value jobs and leaving a lasting legacy of opportunity for local people.

"The fact that EastWorks is fully let so soon after completion shows the strong demand for high-quality commercial space in Clyde Gateway. Our £500m masterplan unveiled earlier this year confirms that our ambition is only accelerating."

Simon Beswick, UK Managing Director at Simera Sense, added: "We are a leading provider of earth observation optical camera solutions for small satellites, and with a burgeoning space industry in Scotland and the UK, we are delighted to make Glasgow a key part of our expansion plans.

"To carry out the assembly of these complex products, we require state-of-the-art lab space – and EastWorks is the perfect location, surrounded by other innovative businesses. We are proud to play our part in the regeneration of Clyde Gateway, creating high-value jobs and bringing more investment to the area."
