Major Renovation Complete On Hurlford Supported Housing Project

A significant renovation project on Barnweil Drive in Hurlford has reached completion, following a dedicated investment from East Ayrshire Council's Housing Services.

The works, carried out on behalf of the East Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership (EAHSCP), have seen four properties completely overhauled to create modern adult supported accommodation.

The project was backed by £152,600 from the Council's Innovation Fund, approved in April 2025. The renovation focused on converting existing bedsits into high-specification tenancies that integrate with the local "housing hub" model. Strategically located near the Andrew Nisbet Place responder hub, the site uses a shared support and responder model, allowing residents to maintain independent tenancies while benefiting from communal overnight services and social care support.

Beyond the internal upgrades, the project has served as a regeneration effort for the local area. Councillor Jim McMahon, Spokesperson for Housing, Transport and Communities, noted that the investment helped in "regenerating properties that had become a bit of an eyesore," while providing a cost-effective alternative to traditional 24-hour care facilities.

The renovation team was praised for maintaining the project's schedule and financial targets. Councillor McMahon added: "Our aim was to get the bedsits completely renovated and tenants settled in their new homes within 12 months, and we are well on our way to achieving that goal. Well done to the whole team for ensuring the project stayed on time and on budget."

The completion of Barnweil Drive marks another milestone in East Ayrshire's strategy to develop specialised housing that meets the complex needs identified in the latest Housing Need and Demand Assessment.
