The second phase of public consultation on SP Energy Networks' Tealing to Kincardine Upgrade Project (TKUP) has closed. The company thanked everyone who attended local events or shared views online, and said responses will be considered before the next stage is developed.

With Scotland generating more clean, renewable electricity than ever, upgrades to the transmission network are needed to deliver power to homes, schools and businesses.

The TKUP proposes increasing the voltage of overhead lines in Fife from 275,000 volts (275kV) to 400,000 volts (400kV). It also includes extensions to Westfield substation, near Ballingry, and Mossmorran substation, near Cowdenbeath, alongside a new substation at Conland (west of West Conland Farm) near Glenrothes, to reinforce the grid and support long-term security of supply.

In 2024, the company consulted on initial proposals to extend Westfield and Mossmorran substations and to uprate the overhead lines.

The second consultation, which closed in December 2025, sought views on plans for the Conland substation and associated changes to the overhead line network.

Together, the measures would expand transmission capacity and help safeguard reliable energy supplies in the years ahead.

SP Energy Networks is now developing detailed substation designs, covering building locations, access routes and working areas. A report will be published summarising the feedback received and how it has shaped the proposals, after which the relevant local authority and the Scottish Government planning applications will be submitted.
