SSEN And AFCCT Bring Pittodrie Pathways To Fraserburgh Academy

SSEN Transmission has teamed up with Aberdeen Football Club Community Trust (AFCCT) to roll out Pittodrie Pathways at Fraserburgh Academy, aiming to equip pupils with essential workplace skills, recognised qualifications and the confidence to take their next steps.

The programme, offered to a cohort of 16 students aged 15–18, is built into the school timetable and leads to an SCQF Level 4 qualification, improving future prospects for those taking part.

Delivered by AFCCT staff, the course brings industry-relevant experience into the classroom. Pupils will explore a wide range of career options and receive practical employability support, from CV writing and interview preparation to developing transferable skills that help them adapt and thrive in the workplace.

Fraserburgh Academy was chosen as part of SSEN Transmission's commitment to communities across the north-east, connecting local young people with opportunities tied to Scotland's clean energy ambitions. The initiative also seeks to strengthen links between education and industry.

Nicky Gadsden, Early Careers Manager at SSEN Transmission, said: "We're delighted to work with AFCCT on this initiative with Fraserburgh Academy. Supporting young people to develop employability skills and gain qualifications is vital for building strong communities and a skilled workforce for the future.

"At SSEN Transmission, we recognise that the energy sector is undergoing a rapid transformation as Scotland moves towards a net zero future. This transition will create thousands of new jobs, and we want to ensure that local young people here in the north east have the confidence, knowledge, and qualifications to seize those opportunities.

"Partnerships like Pittodrie Pathways allow us to connect directly with schools and communities, helping pupils understand the wide range of careers available, not just in engineering, but across project management, environmental planning, and digital technologies. By investing in initiatives like this, we're investing in the next generation who will power Scotland's clean energy future."

Duncan Peter, Business Development and Partnership Manager for Aberdeen FC Community Trust said: "The support for our Pittodrie Pathways pilot in Fraserburgh from SSEN Transmission is hugely appreciated and will allow us to provide practical support to the young people over the course of the next school year.

"Their investment in the young people, and the community, is a significant one and may well provide the future workforce of the energy sector!"

SSEN Transmission has set out plans to recruit 600 'earn as you learn' roles by 2030 and is a platinum member of The 5% Club, reflecting its commitment to structured training and development. The company also partners with initiatives including Powering Futures and EDT's Industrial Cadets to inspire and prepare young people for careers in green energy.
