With electricity demand projected to double by 2050, reinforcing and expanding Britain’s power grid is critical to accommodate growth, support new homes and industries, and deliver national ambitions.
SP Energy Networks’ transmission system in Central and Southern Scotland transports electricity from power stations, wind farms and other sources to local distribution networks and links with other UK transmission networks.
Through its next Transmission Business Plan (RIIO-T3), the company intends to invest up to £12bn between 2026 and 2031 to modernise and expand the network.
Construction is already under way on key projects to accelerate progress ahead of the RIIO-T3 price control, with teams on site advancing the grid and helping to deliver the energy transition.
