More than £4m will be invested in the railway between Dunblane and Bridge of Allan early next year to boost the route's long-term resilience and reliability.

Network Rail engineers will work on three key structures: Kippenross Tunnel, Bridge of Allan footbridge and the Mill of Keir Viaduct.

At Kippenross Tunnel, works begin on 5 January. Teams will spray concrete to strengthen areas of deteriorated brickwork, carry out essential masonry repairs, improve water management and update safety signage.

Maintenance on the Bridge of Allan footbridge starts on 19 January, with a temporary closure from 27 February to 26 April. The programme includes vital masonry and steel repairs, replacement of the timber deck, extending parapet walls, protective repainting and vegetation clearance to maintain safe access.

From 23 February, the Mill of Keir Viaduct will undergo masonry repairs, installation of additional steel supports to reinforce parapets and spandrel walls, drainage clearance, new signage and vegetation removal to improve stability and safety.

To deliver the works safely and efficiently, rail services on the route will be altered across two weekends: 28 February to 2 March and 14 to 16 March. Passengers should check with their operator for the latest travel information.

"By reinforcing structures, improving drainage, and upgrading signage, we're ensuring these assets remain fit for the future.

"We're also focused on sustainability, extending the life of existing structures and reducing the need for more disruptive interventions later.

"We appreciate the patience of the local community while these essential improvements are carried out, as they will deliver long-term benefits for generations to come."
