SP Energy Networks is undertaking a major programme to modernise the electricity network in Lymm, boosting capacity to support a cleaner, greener future.
The company will replace a 13km cable connection to future‑proof the local network and ensure a safe, reliable and resilient electricity supply for the area.
The scheme will be delivered in phases, with work starting at two locations in early January 2025. This will involve excavating sections of roads and footpaths to remove ageing cables and connect new ones into the local supply network.
Completion is scheduled for July 2026, when the upgraded cable link will be in service, supporting a dependable, future‑ready electricity supply.
SP Energy Networks is working with Warrington‑based partner Opus Utility Solutions. Initial activity will install a section of cable on Cherry Lane and the Lymm Footpath.
Diversion routes and signage will be in place, and teams will work safely and as quickly as possible to minimise disruption. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained, and electricity supplies are not expected to be interrupted.
Plans have been agreed with Warrington Borough Council and are designed to reduce impacts on road users.
