Construction Begins On New Harlaw Playing Fields Pavilion

Construction has begun on a new, modern pavilion at Harlaw Playing Fields, set to significantly enhance facilities for pupils and staff at Harlaw Academy.

The project will allow PE staff to operate from the site and cut the time pupils spend travelling, with the location close to Harlaw Road and replacing reliance on the current Groats Road facilities beside Hazlehead Park.

Aberdeen City Council Co-Leader Councillor Ian Yuill said: "The new pavilion for Harlaw Academy pupils and staff will be a major improvement on the current facilities.

"This new pavilion is part of the Council’s key focus on providing the best possible education and education facilities for Aberdeen’s young people."

Alex McLellan said: Aberdeen City Council Finance convener Councillor Alex McLellan said: "These new facilities will benefit pupils, staff, and the wider community as well as being much closer to Harlaw Academy.

"We look forward to watching the monitoring the progress over the months to come."

The pavilion is intended to provide PE provision that meets the future needs of both the school and the surrounding community.

It is also expected to cut energy and maintenance costs and deliver enough capacity to accommodate a projected rise in the school roll to 1,350 by 2030.

Demolition of the previous pavilion has already taken place ahead of the main construction works due to its condition and health and safety concerns.
