Hub South East Celebrates Three Wins At Learning Places Awards

Hub South East is celebrating industry recognition after three of its education projects in West Lothian and Midlothian took home top honours at the Learning Places Scotland Awards, held following the 8th annual conference this week.

Easthouses Primary, East Calder Primary and Beatlie School Campus all secured awards, highlighting what the organisation described as strong partnership working and high-quality delivery for its public sector clients.

Beatlie School Campus — delivered for West Lothian Council with Morrison Construction as main contractor and NORR as design lead — won in the new Creating Space for Outdoor Learning and Play category. The ASN school supports young people aged 3–18 with severe and complex needs, and its outdoor environment plays a key role in learning, wellbeing and inclusivity.

The same delivery team also completed the new East Calder Primary School, which was named Project of the Year. The school’s distinctive triangular design creates a modern, stimulating learning environment and achieves extremely low-energy performance levels equivalent to Passivhaus standards. East Calder also shared the Inspiring Learning Spaces award with Easthouses Primary.

Easthouses Primary — built for Midlothian Council, with Morrison Construction as main contractor and jmarchitects as designers — includes a new primary school, early years facilities and ASN provision. It serves as a pilot project for the council's new model for primary schools, aimed at setting a higher benchmark for design and construction across its growing education estate.

Paul McGirk, Hub South East’s Chief Executive, said: "We're delighted with the recognition for East Calder Primary, Easthouses Primary and Beatlie School Campus. Each demonstrates true partnership working, innovative design, quality construction and ultimately positive outcomes for young people. Our thanks and congratulations go to all parties involved in these fantastic projects.

"Hub South East has a proven track record of success in the education sector and we are proud to have been entrusted with the delivery of more than £600m of projects for our public sector clients, with more than £240m currently under construction or in development. Our commitment to ensuring that new community infrastructure is aligned with our clients’ aspirations around net zero, place and local wealth creation, has led to positive partnerships and we look forward to further developing these on future projects."
