Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has granted Planning Permission in Principle for the development of SSEN's Electricity Transmission Hub at Arnish, Isle of Lewis.

The Comhairle approved the recommendation put forward by the Planning Application Board, subject to the conditions set out by the council. The Members reached their decision following a detailed presentation of the Planning Report delivered by the Comhairle's planning service.

This planning approval marks a crucial step forward for SSEN's plans to develop the necessary infrastructure to connect significant renewable energy projects, particularly offshore wind, from the Western Isles to the mainland grid.

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar extended thanks to members of the public and relevant organisations for their engagement in the planning process. All representations from the public were presented at the Comhairle's Planning Applications Board and shared with all Members prior to the final decision.
