Aberdeen Event Aims to Tackle Construction Skills Shortage

Aberdeen City Council has announced a free 'Get into Construction' event, to allow job seekers, students, and career changers to explore opportunities within the region's construction sector.

Hosted by ABZWorks—Aberdeen City Council's Employability and Skills service— the event will take place on Monday, 1 December 2025, at the Beach Ballroom.

The event has been specifically organised to address ongoing recruitment challenges within the construction industry and to help residents secure good, sustainable employment, particularly as major building projects develop in the North East. Forecasts from Skills Development Scotland indicate that an additional 1,000 construction jobs will be required in the region by 2034.

Attendees will have the opportunity to connect directly with major local construction employers, gain valuable insights into the diverse career paths available—from skilled trades to professional roles—and receive practical advice on how to start in the sector.

Councillor Christian Allard, Co-Leader of Aberdeen City Council, emphasised the event's importance: "Construction offers diverse and rewarding career paths, from skilled trades to professional roles and this event is a great opportunity for anyone considering a future in the sector to meet employers, ask questions, and discover the routes into these jobs."

Exhibitors will include key industry players and educational bodies such as CHAP, Balfour Beatty, Morrison Construction, Robert Gordon University, and North East Scotland College (NESCol), alongside Aberdeen City Council.

The event will bring together employers and experts, some of whom may have live vacancies, as well as training organisations that can support individuals from entry level all the way through to securing professional qualifications. Attendees can speak directly with industry professionals across a broad range of specialisms to hear first-hand about not only how to enter the sector but also progression routes and salary ranges.

The event will take place on Monday 1 December, from 10am to 1pm, at the Beach Ballroom, Beach Boulevard, Aberdeen, AB24 5NR.

Attendance is free, and no advance booking is required.

Any construction industry organisations interested in taking a free stand at the event should email [email protected]

This event is funded through No One Left Behind, a Scottish Government initiative.
