Eastern Green Link 5 Information Events In Peterhead And Longside

Residents in Peterhead and Longside are invited to public information sessions on Eastern Green Link 5 (EGL5), a major subsea electricity transmission project linking north-east Scotland with Lincolnshire.

SSEN Transmission will host the drop-in events on Thursday 27 November. They run from 10:00am–12:00pm at Longside Football Club (AB42 4GR) and from 2:00pm–7:00pm at Peterhead Football Club, Balmoor Terrace, Peterhead (AB42 1EQ).

Visitors will be able to learn about the proposed High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) subsea cable connecting Aberdeenshire to Lincolnshire, review potential cable route options from the preferred landfall on the Aberdeenshire coast to the proposed connection point at the Netherton Hub, west of Peterhead, and see details of the nearshore survey area extending from the landfall to 12 nautical miles offshore.

Jenny Irvine, Lead Project Manager from SSEN Transmission, said: "We look forward to welcoming people to our EGL5 information events, where they can meet the project team, review information on cable routing and landfall site selection, and share their feedback.

"Community input is a vital part of our development process, and these sessions will help shape our proposals for EGL5, which, once complete, will transmit up to 2GW of clean energy – enough to power two million homes and make a significant contribution to the UK's clean energy and energy security goals.

"We encourage anyone interested in the project to join us in Longside or Peterhead on Thursday 27 November to learn more and provide their views."
