New drone footage has captured the scale of the transformation underway at the site of Barrhead's new £18.3 million Balgray station.
The video – which can be watched here – shows the steel platform structures beginning to take shape as the construction progresses.
Construction began in July this year. Teams have already moved key signalling equipment, installed new overhead line structures, and carried out essential track, drainage, and earthworks.
The new station, which is part of the wider Glasgow City Region City Deal, is scheduled for completion in Autumn 2026. The funding is provided by the UK and Scottish Governments and East Renfrewshire Council.
Once complete, Balgray station will feature:
• Two platforms connected by a footbridge with lifts for accessibility.
• Waiting shelters, ticket machines, and secure cycle storage.
• An 80-space car park with electric vehicle (EV) charging points.
• New paths linking the platforms to nearby developments and the reservoir.
Ashley McDonald, scheme project manager at Network Rail Scotland, said the station is about "giving people more choice in how they get to work, visit family and friends and enjoy their free time. It makes rail a more convenient and accessible option for their everyday journeys.”
The station is being delivered by Network Rail in partnership with East Renfrewshire Council, Transport Scotland, ScotRail, and Story Contracting. The next phase of work will focus on building the foundations for the footbridge and starting construction on the new car park.
