Community organisations in Peterhead and the surrounding areas have received more than £420,000 in the first round of awards from a new community benefit fund linked to the UK’s largest ever electricity transmission project.

The Eastern Green Link 2 (EGL2) Peterhead Local Fund, which will deliver over £2 million in community funding over the next five years, has announced its first allocations, providing a total of £420,294 to 12 local groups and organisations.

Among the successful recipients are:

Peterhead FC Community Foundation – awarded £99,800 to expand its successful partner school programme across the local area.

Peterhead Golf Club – receiving £60,000 to help secure the future of the Birnie Bridge.

Aberdeen Science Centre – granted £53,504 to launch six new STEM education clubs for primary school children in Peterhead and nearby communities.

Aberdeenshire Sailing Trust – awarded £23,340 to deliver watersports activities for children and young people, promoting personal development and positive mental health.

In total, the EGL2 Peterhead Local Fund will provide £2,159,444 to support local projects across the region over a five-year period. The fund is designed to invest in initiatives that reflect community priorities, helping to create lasting social, educational, and environmental benefits for the Blue Toon and surrounding areas.
