Robertson Group Exceeds £1bn Social Value Target Five Years Early

The Robertson Group has affirmed its leadership in sustainable construction with the publication of its 2024–25 ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Report, confirming the business has achieved £1 billion in social value, reaching the goal five years earlier than planned under its Responsible Business 2030 strategy.

The £1bn milestone represents the combined impact of the Group's construction projects across the UK, where collaboration with local partners, suppliers, and customers is prioritised. The company's focus on local spend, apprenticeships, and community investment is central to delivering these measurable benefits and strengthening local economies.

The commitment to the social aspect of construction was demonstrated by the delivery of more than 2,700 volunteering hours by Team Robertson and its supply chain, alongside £540k in donations and in-kind support for local causes. The Group also enhanced 1,753 lives through formal training, work placements, and apprenticeships, which included securing employment for 78 individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. Furthermore, the company's Ideal Candidate programme has supported over 1,000 participants and established new career pathways into the construction sector through partnerships with City of Glasgow College and Edinburgh College.

On the environmental front, the construction company reported a significant 73.72% reduction in carbon intensity since first baselining its carbon footprint ten years ago, with 46% of that reduction achieved in the last five years alone. This progress is attributed to continued investment in sustainable construction methods, the adoption of low-carbon technologies, responsible sourcing of materials, and early engagement with design teams to reduce embodied carbon from the project's outset.

The Group has maintained its climate positive status by offsetting 3,943.10 tonnes more carbon than it generated. Its commitment to resource efficiency remains strong, with over 99% of construction waste diverted from landfill. The report also noted a reduction of more than half in energy use per £100k of project spend over the past five years.

Elliot Robertson, Chief Executive Officer, Robertson Group, reiterated the company's commitment to sustainability.

"Over the last 12 months, we have continued to take significant steps forward: further reducing our carbon intensity, delivering projects that set new benchmarks for sustainability, and expanding our social programmes to support more people than ever before," he said.

The company was also named Green Business of the Year at the British Business Awards and achieved Platinum status in the Supply Chain Sustainability School Plant Charter. Projects like Montgomerie Park Primary School and Riverbank Primary School were highlighted as examples of practical delivery of net zero design principles.
