SELECT, Scotland's largest construction trade association, has announced the appointment of Sharon Miller as its new Managing Director Designate.
She will become the first woman to hold the crucial post in the organisation's 125-year history.
Ms Miller, who has broad experience across UK and Scottish government roles dating back to 1988, will begin her position in December, shadowing current MD Alan Wilson until his departure next summer.
Known for her strong reputation for delivery and partnership, Ms Miller was instrumental in the creation of the Construction Leadership Forum (CLF), a unique collaboration involving industry, government, academia, and trades unions. This experience is highly relevant to SELECT, as around 65% of its membership comprises small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Ms Miller stated: "It is a great privilege to have been asked to lead the team at SELECT... During my work with the CLF and the Construction Accord team, we achieved levels of collaboration not seen in the sector before. I want to continue this partnership approach in my new role to deliver progress for our members on the issues that matter to them."
Alan Wilson, who has been SELECT MD since 2019, said Ms Miller has an "impressive depth of experience and a strong reputation for delivery through partnership and collaboration." He expressed confidence that she will champion the campaign for the professional recognition of electricians and guide the association into an exciting future due to the increasing reliance on electricity.
Mike Stark, President of SELECT, welcomed the appointment in the organisation's 125th year, noting that Ms Miller's experience will help the association and its members "write the next chapter in their history."
