The Citadel Leisure Centre in Ayr has achieved a major construction milestone with the completion of its brand-new entrance façade earlier this month, October 2025, as part of its ongoing refurbishment programme.

South Ayrshire Council worked with delivery partners Alliance Leisure and Robertson Construction Central West to deliver the modern exterior at the busy community facility. The works included the installation of new curtain walling glazing, a new roof overlay above the entrance, and cladding.

Further Infrastructure Upgrades

With the façade now complete, the focus for the construction teams will shift to the internal fit-out of the new entrance area.

The refurbishment also includes a series of critical infrastructure upgrades to modernise the facility and ensure its long-term viability. These include:

• Roofing repairs

• Essential pool plantroom works

• A major electrical upgrade and other enabling works

Councillor Martin Kilbride, Policy Lead for Housing and Property Services at South Ayrshire Council, stated: "The new façade at the Citadel is a major transformation for the centre and a huge milestone in our journey to totally revamp the facility. The refreshed exterior will give people a taste of what's to come when the interior upgrade works are completed."

The investment is designed to ensure the leisure centre continues to serve the community for many more years, providing a first-class facility for customers and members.
