The extensive refurbishment of Milngavie Primary School is progressing rapidly following the successful decant of pupils and staff, allowing contractors to access the empty building.

McLaughlin & Harvey is delivering the project, which will bring significant improvements to the school’s fabric and learning environment ahead of the pupils’ return in August 2026.

The scope of work is focused on enhancing the building’s integrity and appearance. Over the current academic year, the following key improvements are scheduled:

• Full replacement of the roof, including all gutters, valleys, and skylights.

• Complete renewal of all windows throughout the premises.

• Repair and reinstatement of stonework where poor condition has led to water ingress.

• Full internal decoration.

Already, the junior building has received all new windows and substantial headway has been made on the main roof replacement. Furthermore, the delicate task of doff cleaning—a gentle steam-cleaning method for restoring stonework—on the main building’s façade is complete. This cleaning, repair, and reinstatement work will continue until the entire façade is finished.

Council Leader, Gordan Low of East Dunbartonshire Council, commented on the works: "This extensive refurbishment of Milngavie Primary will bring significant improvements to the learning environment of pupils and will enhance the building for everyone. It is an important project for the entire school community and it is encouraging to hear that good progress is being made."
