Robertson Hands Over £30.3m Riverbank School

The new Riverbank School in Tillydrone, Aberdeen, has been officially opened, following its delivery by Robertson Construction Eastern on behalf of Aberdeen City Council.

The £30.3 million purpose-built campus was handed over in April 2025, allowing pupils and staff to settle in before the official ceremony held on Wednesday, 8 October 2025.

The modern campus, located on Coningham Gardens, replaces the former Riverbank School on Dill Road and represents a significant investment in the city's educational estate. It provides capacity for up to 651 primary pupils, alongside Early Learning and Nursery provision for up to 60 children.

The contemporary facility, which was built on the site of the former Tillydrone Infant School and part of the former St Machar Primary School site, includes a 3G sports pitch and a variety of outdoor play and learning spaces.

Councillor Alex McLellan, convener of the Finance and Resource Committee, praised the successful partnership, stating he was "absolutely delighted Aberdeen City Council, in partnership with Robertson Construction have delivered the new Riverbank School in Tillydrone."

Gordon Milne, Regional Managing Director, Robertson Construction Eastern, emphasised the construction focus: "Delivered in partnership with Aberdeen City Council, the school provides a modern learning environment that brings together design quality, innovation and low-carbon construction. Its official opening marks a new chapter for education in the city."

The official opening ceremony saw a time capsule buried in the school grounds, containing a pen drive with photos of the construction process, class photos, and a letter from the head teacher to her successor in the year 2050.
