Michael Gillies, the Emerging Talent Manager at SGN, has been appointed to the Scottish Apprenticeship Advisory Board (SAAB) Group Board.
The SAAB is an independent, industry-led body whose mission is to ensure apprenticeships are demand-led, fit for purpose, and future-oriented for the benefit of Scotland's economy.
The appointment acknowledges Mr Gillies' extensive experience and commitment to workforce development, following over 25 years in training and recruitment. In his voluntary role on the Group Board, he will attend bi-monthly meetings, review board papers, and act as an ambassador for apprenticeships across Scotland. He will also play a key role in shaping national apprenticeship policy, helping to ensure programmes continue to provide meaningful career pathways and meet industry skills needs.
The move also reinforces SGN's commitment to supporting skills growth across the energy sector as the UK transitions to net zero.
Mr Gillies commented: "I'm honoured to have been invited to join the SAAB Group Board. It's a fantastic opportunity to contribute to Scotland's skills agenda while representing SGN on a national platform. I'm passionate about making sure apprenticeships remain a cornerstone of how we attract, develop and retain talent in our industry."
Penny Meddes, Chief People Officer at SGN, added: "We're delighted that Michael has been recognised with this appointment. His dedication to developing people and his insight into the skills needed for the future of our industry will make him a valuable addition to the SAAB Group Board."
