South Lanarkshire Announces Hamilton Roadworks

A section of the A723 Strathaven Road in Hamilton will be closed for a week to allow for essential road improvement works, which have been timed to coincide with the school October holiday week to minimise disruption.

The closure will be in effect from 8am on Sunday, 12 October, until 6pm on Saturday, 18 October. The affected stretch runs from its northern junction with Galloway Avenue to (and including) the roundabout at Ambleside Rise. The road is not wide enough to safely maintain vehicle access while works are underway.

General traffic will be unable to travel through the closure during this time. While access for local businesses and residents will be maintained where possible, the Head of Roads, Transportation and Fleet Services, Colin Park, noted that there may be instances where local access and egress could be significantly delayed. Traffic Marshals and site staff will be on hand to assist.

A lengthy diversion route will be in place via the A723 Strathaven Road, A723 Commercial Road, A726 Glasgow Road, A726 Strathaven Road, A725 Kingsway, A725 Hamilton Road, B7012 High Blantyre Road, A724 Burnbank Road, Almada Street, A72 Muir Street, A72 Palace Grounds Road, A723 Blackswell Lane, A723 Duke Street, A723 Portland Place, and A723 Low Waters Road and vice versa.

Mr Park apologised for the inconvenience and asked all road users to allow additional time for their journeys, assuring them they will appreciate the long-term benefits of the improvements once the work is completed.
