The Sanquhar II Wind Farm project, spanning Dumfries and Galloway and East Ayrshire, has reached a significant construction milestone with the first pouring of concrete on its turbine foundations.

Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK, the principal contractor, is leading the delivery of the £400 million (£400m) scheme, which is expected to have the capacity to power more than 335,000 homes annually. The development, led by CWP Energy, will become the fourth-largest wind farm in the UK.

The first pour was completed using the two on-site concrete batching plants, which were implemented by Jones Bros, supported by Cambrian, to reduce vehicle movements and streamline the project delivery.

Project manager Jonathan Maitland, who currently leads a team of around 100 which is expected to grow to 200, called the first pour "always a special milestone on wind farm schemes."

Scheduled activity for Jones Bros includes the creation of new access tracks and associated crane hardstanding to prepare for turbine delivery and erection. The civil engineering firm will also construct two substation platforms for exporting power.

First power generation from the wind farm in south-west Scotland is expected in 2027.

Jones Bros Contracts Director Garod Evans noted that the Sanquhar II project is another significant renewable energy scheme for its Scottish team, which is also working on Benbrack, North Kyle, and Windy Standard III wind farms.
