Robertson Construction Tayside has completed its biggest week of education project handovers, delivering over £230 million worth of modern, sustainable learning environments to three Scottish councils.
The massive undertaking supports the councils' net zero ambitions and education priorities, featuring three brand-new schools built to the highly efficient Passivhaus standard, alongside five refurbishment projects. All schemes were completed on budget and programme, ready for the new school term.
The three new Passivhaus schools were supported by the Scottish Government's Learning Estates Investment Programme (LEIP) and feature a fabric-first approach with triple glazing, airtight construction, and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery.
In Dundee, the £100m Drumgeith Community Campus and Greenfield Academy was delivered to serve 1,500 pupils. It is Dundee City Council's most significant investment in education, incorporating solar panels and green steel to meet net zero targets. The campus includes extensive community facilities, such as games halls, gymnasiums, and floodlit pitches.
In Angus, the £66.5m Monifieth Learning Campus provides a modern, low-carbon environment for more than 1,200 pupils. Built to Passivhaus standards, it incorporates air source heat pumps and solar panels, targeting an annual energy use of just 67 kWh per square metre. The facilities include an indoor 25-metre swimming pool, a theatre, and drama studios.
The third major project is the £80m Perth High School in Perth & Kinross. This three-storey building is now the largest school in the area, accommodating 1,600 pupils and 140 staff. It features an all-electric system with underfloor heating and solar panels, designed to achieve the highest levels of energy efficiency.
Beyond the new builds, Robertson also completed major refurbishments at Perth Academy (eight phases over nearly six years) and four primary schools in Dundee (Barnhill, Craigiebarns, Eastern, and Blackness).
Robertson Construction Tayside Regional Managing Director, Kevin Dickson, stated that the successful handover of three "state-of-the-art high-quality schools" in the same week highlights the company's regional expertise.
The projects generated significant local social and economic value, reflected by:
• 75% of the supply chain spend being within 40 miles of each project.
• 700 local people being employed across the schemes.
