SSEN Transmission Offers £5.5m In Maintenance Contracts

SSEN Transmission is offering local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the north of Scotland the opportunity to bid for up to £5.5 million worth of maintenance contracts over a period of five years.

This initiative aims to provide a substantial economic boost to local contractors by utilising their skills to maintain and upgrade the electricity grid infrastructure.

The contracts cover maintenance work across 180 sites, which include substation locations and other vital transmission infrastructure. This work forms a key part of the company's ongoing investment to improve the electricity grid across the north of Scotland.

Scope of Work and Application Details

Local contractors across the Highlands and Islands, Moray, Aberdeenshire, Angus, Perth and Kinross, and Dundee are invited to apply to tender for the work via SSEN Transmission’s Minor Maintenance Framework. The deadline for expressing interest is Tuesday, 29 October 2025.

The contracts cover a wide range of essential works, traditionally delivered by smaller contractors, including: General Building Work; Minor Civils Work; Roofing works (flat and pitched); Plumbing & Drainage systems; Fencing; Metal & fabrication works; Painting & Decoration; Doors/Windows; Manhole Covers; Floors and Walls; Soffits and Gutters/Downpipes; Joinery & Carpentry; Bricklaying; Cladding; Plastering; Groundworks; Mechanical & electrical (in conjunction with general building works); Large Doors Overhaul; Winter maintenance; Rodent control.

Stuart Knight, Head of Operations from SSEN Transmission, encouraged local businesses to apply: "Our upgrades to the electricity transmission network are creating huge economic opportunities in communities across Scotland, from large companies to smaller local contractors whose skills and experience are required to deliver this vital work. As part of this we are pleased to offer up to £5.5m worth of maintenance contracts over five years to local businesses with expertise that is essential to the maintenance and repair of our sites across the north of Scotland."

Mr Knight added that this work underlines the benefits of their ongoing operations in promoting economic activity in local communities.
