SP Electricity North West's multimillion-pound investment in Barrow's power network will benefit constituents for decades to come, according to local MP Michelle Scrogham.

Engineers are replacing 28 kilometres of underground electricity cables across five separate circuits to enhance the network's reliability.

Ms Scrogham visited the site and met with engineers to see the progress of the project. Tracey Cuthbertson, who is overseeing the work, said teams have already installed 1.7km of underground ducting.

Ms Cuthbertson said the extensive engineering project was "required" and would "undoubtedly improve reliability for thousands of properties in Barrow and Dalton." She added that the increased capacity would "future proof" the network and allow for future development.

Ms Scrogham acknowledged the works along Abbey Road have caused some disruption but said it was encouraging to see the progress being made firsthand. She added that the increased capacity would "future-proof the network and allow for the planned future development of the town."
