Additional projects to deliver more affordable homes across North Lanarkshire have been approved as part of the council's Strategic Housing Investment Plan (SHIP) for 2026/27 - 2030/31.

The plan aims to deliver around 2,300 new affordable homes over the next five years.

The plan has identified new priorities, which include delivering a range of housing to meet varied needs, ensuring homes are accessible and environmentally friendly, tackling fuel poverty, and helping to regenerate communities and town centres. The projects will be delivered by the council and registered social landlords, supported by funding from the Scottish Government.

Housing Convener, Councillor Michael McPake, said the SHIP details "ambitious and exciting plans." He noted that the council has identified additional priorities to deliver a further 280 homes, which have now been included in the plan.

Significant progress was made in 2024/25 with 451 new homes delivered, and it is projected that around 260 homes will be delivered in 2025/26, with approximately 410 more scheduled to begin construction. The SHIP will be submitted to the Scottish Government at the end of October.
