Built Environment – Smarter Transformation (BE-ST) has launched the Low Carbon Passport, a new course designed to train construction workers in the skills and competencies needed to deliver high-quality, low-carbon buildings.

The programme is funded by the CITB Industry Impact Fund and led by Tier 1 contractors.

The free course will train 1,200 construction workers by December 2026. It combines online modules with hands-on, in-person training to provide both knowledge and practical skills. The course is open to everyone across the supply chain, from new entrants to experienced professionals, and aims to be CPD certified by 2026.

Caitriona Jordan, Associate Director of Retrofit and Energy Efficiency at BE-ST, said the programme is a "much-needed intervention for our industry" and will give people the "confidence and competence to deliver buildings that are fit for the future."

The course covers two main modules: Low Energy Building Technology: Fabric and Low Energy Building Technology: Building Services, which explore principles such as insulation, airtightness, and how building systems contribute to low-energy performance.

The first online course is now available, and the first two in-person sessions will take place on Tuesday, 7 October and Tuesday, 28 October at City of Glasgow College.
