Hamilton West station is set to fully reopen on Saturday, 30 August, following a £2.1 million project to completely rebuild platform 2.

Over the past 15 weeks, the platform has been demolished and replaced with a new structure featuring improved surfacing, better drainage, and tactile paving to assist visually impaired passengers. The upgrade is part of a planned programme of work aimed at improving the station's infrastructure.

According to Laura Craig, scheme project manager at Network Rail, the new platform is "safer, easier to move around, and feels like a much more welcoming space overall."

Phil Campbell, Customer Operations Director at ScotRail, also thanked customers for their patience during the work, adding that he is confident they will enjoy the upgraded platform.

The rebuild at Hamilton West is one of several station upgrades taking place across Scotland this year. A £2.9m improvement project was recently completed at Hillington West, while Alexandra Parade in Glasgow and Dunkeld and Birnam in Perthshire have also seen significant enhancements. The projects are part of Network Rail’s wider programme to modernise station infrastructure across the country, ensuring stations remain safe, accessible, and ready to meet future needs.
