Telfer King, a 33-year-old from East Lothian, has been appointed Assistant Site Manager at Cala Homes (East) on its Saltcoats Grange development in Gullane.
The promotion marks a major career milestone for King, who first joined the company in 2017 as a labourer at the Castle Bay development in Dunbar. His progression is being heralded by the developer as a clear example of its ethos of investing in local talent and creating long-term opportunities from within the business.
King's story highlights the company's focus on professional development. He received training in safety, supervisory roles, and site management, supported by mentors who guided him. He now works on a development that will include a mix of homes and is known for its distinctive East Lothian architectural style.
John Sartain, Site Manager at the nearby Longbanks Green development in Dunbar, also benefited from the company's professional development focus. Starting as a trainee more than a decade ago, Sartain has risen through the ranks, experiencing the company's dedication to fostering career progression.
Derek Lawson, Strategic Land Director for Cala Homes (East), said the company is "proud of the opportunities we provide, whether it’s graduate roles, apprenticeships, or training programmes." He congratulated King on his promotion, noting that it is rewarding to see talents like him and Sartain flourish while contributing to their developments.
