SSE Renewables is inviting local residents to a series of public consultation events later this month to share views on updated proposals for its Tangy Repower Wind Farm in South Kintyre.
The events will take place on Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 August at venues in Campbeltown, Machrihanish and Tayinloan.
Tangy Wind Farm, located nearly six miles northwest of Campbeltown, first opened in 2003. Its 22 turbines currently deliver 18.7MW of renewable energy capacity but are nearing the end of their operational lifespan.
Consent to repower the wind farm was granted in 2019 by Scottish Ministers, allowing SSE Renewables to extend Tangy’s operational life, boost energy output and reduce turbine numbers from 22 to 16.
Under the latest redesigns, now subject to public consultation, the proposed installed capacity would rise significantly to as much as 96MW. This would be achieved by increasing the tip height of the 16 consented turbines to up to 200 metres.
Ian Stewart, Lead Development Project Manager at SSE Renewables, said: "Our new proposals will maximise Tangy's potential to provide vital homegrown clean energy. So, we're inviting any interested parties and local community members to attend our consultations and have their say.
The repowering was previously consented in 2019. After a feasibility study we now want views on our redesigned proposals to inform submission of a Section 36C Variation application to the Scottish Government."
The Tangy Repower project team will be available at each event to present information, explain the updated plans and answer questions from the public.
