Progress Made On Glasgow's Connecting Woodside Active Travel Project

Significant progress has been made on the Connecting Woodside initiative, which is reshaping parts of Glasgow into a more inclusive space for walking, wheeling, and cycling.

The latest phase of work is focused on St George's Road, where construction is well underway.

A two-way cycle lane has been completed on the south-eastern side of St George's Road, providing a protected route that now connects Charing Cross to the Quietway route on West Princes Street. This route will ultimately extend to Garscube Road, linking with existing active travel networks.

On the opposite side of the road, marked parking bays have been introduced alongside dedicated loading and disabled parking spaces. Safety improvements have also been delivered at Carnarvon Street, with completed footway buildouts and a raised junction to provide step-free crossings for pedestrians.

Construction is currently underway on a new pedestrian crossing over the slip road from St George's Road to Great Western Road, as well as a dedicated cycle-only crossing over Maryhill Road and Phoenix Road. The project is being delivered in seven stages, with the Charing Cross junction already complete.

Future work on this section of St George's Road will include improved drainage, upgraded streetlighting, and the planting of street trees.

The wider Connecting Woodside initiative, which is funded by the Scottish Government through Sustrans Scotland, has also delivered a two-way segregated cycle way on Garscube Road and a junction upgrade at North Woodside Road and Maryhill Road.
