South Ayrshire Council has announced that its new housing development at Riverside Place in Ayr will be handed over by the contractor in January 2026.

The project, which cost around £17.2 million and received a £6.7 million contribution from the Scottish Government, will see the completion of 75 new homes.

The development, which is currently under construction, will include 40 one-bedroom flats, 30 two-bedroom flats, and five wheelchair-user flats.

The last remaining tower block on the site is set for demolition this September, with the works expected to take around 8 weeks to complete. Following the demolition, landscaping works will be carried out across the site. The council is in the process of writing to former tower block residents who expressed an interest in returning to the site, offering assistance with packing and removals.

Councillor Martin Kilbride, Buildings, Housing and Environment Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council, said: "The addition of another 75 affordable homes in Ayr is great news and underlines our commitment to build energy efficient and affordable properties which meet the needs of tenants." He added that with the final tower block's telecoms mast now decommissioned, work can begin on its demolition before the new development is complete.
