The Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Fiona Hyslop MSP, today visited the A82 Grotaig site, near Invergarry, to see the ongoing rock slope stabilisation works.
The project, a collaboration between BEAR Scotland and Forest and Land Scotland, is part of a rolling programme to address geotechnical hazards on the North West trunk road network.
Earlier this summer, over 11,000m² of rock netting was installed to mitigate against potential rock falls. BEAR Scotland is also conducting further investigations on the rock slopes to inform future mitigation measures that will help protect the A82.
Commenting on the visit, Fiona Hyslop said that with warmer, wetter weather affecting ground conditions, it is "vital we ensure our trunk roads remain safe, resilient and adapted to deal with these challenges."
She added that the Scottish Government is investing £714 million this budgetary year to ensure the network "continues to provide important connectivity for people and businesses across the country."
Euan Scott, BEAR Scotland's North West Unit Representative, said the teams are "committed to delivering long-term improvements to infrastructure" that serve road users, local communities, and visitors. The project is part of BEAR Scotland's ongoing maintenance programme on behalf of Transport Scotland.
