Morrison Construction To Lead £9m Pollok Stables Revamp

Morrison Construction has been identified as the preferred contractor for the next phase of the £9 million refurbishment of the A-listed Pollok Stables and Sawmill in Glasgow's Pollok Country Park.

The project, funded by the UK Government, aims to transform the semi-derelict buildings into a vibrant visitor attraction that will enhance the park's wider offering, which includes the Burrell Collection, Pollok House, and the iconic Highland cattle.

This stage of the works is scheduled to begin in October, following a competitive tendering process. Morrison Construction’s bid was assessed as the best value among four submissions, based on a 60% quality and 40% cost evaluation.

Previous works on the site have focused on stabilising the historic buildings, which were on Glasgow City Council's Buildings at Risk register. Repairs to roofs, lighting, guttering, and piping have already been completed, paving the way for the more extensive refurbishment now planned.

Councillor Ruairi Kelly, Convener for Built Heritage and Development at Glasgow City Council, said: "The works under this new contract will complete the refurbishment of these A listed historic buildings into 21st century uses, with these complementing the fantastic built heritage attractions - the Burrell Collection and Pollok House - found within Pollok Country Park. We have invested a huge amount - and attracted significant investment - in the council's built heritage estate in recent years in recognition of the great economic, social and environmental benefits it brings to Glasgow."
