Rail Bridge Replacement Set To Begin In Fife

Work is set to begin later this month to replace the railway bridge on Letham Road in Collessie, Fife, as part of a wider programme of improvements on the Ladybank to Perth line.

The current structure, which has served the village for decades, will be replaced to extend its lifespan and maintain the safety and reliability of the route.

The 12-week project will be delivered by Network Rail in partnership with contractor Amco-Giffen, running from 18 August to 7 November. Alongside the bridge replacement, the upgrade will include masonry and retaining wall repairs, vegetation clearance, and steelwork painting.

To facilitate the works safely, a series of traffic management measures will be introduced. These will include overnight road closures, as well as two full weekend closures scheduled for September. Diversions will be clearly marked for all vehicles, including HGVs and tractors, and two-way temporary traffic lights will be in place outside of the closure periods.

Susan Menmuir, scheme project manager at Network Rail, said: "Maintaining structures like this is essential to keeping the railway running safely and reliably. By acting now, we can avoid more complex challenges in the years ahead and help safeguard the long-term future of the line through Collessie.

"We know how important this route is to the local community, and we’re committed to delivering the work as safely and efficiently as possible, while doing our best to minimise disruption.

"Although much of the work will take place during the day, some activity has to happen at night when trains aren't running. This is the safest time for our teams to be on site. We really appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while we carry out these essential improvements."
