Initial preparations are now under way to bring Auchenharvie Leisure Centre's swimming pool back into use following extensive storm damage.
Specialist contractors, Walker Cladding, arrived on site yesterday, Monday, 4 August, to begin the process of repairing the facility's roof, which was damaged by Storm Éowyn earlier this year.
Councillor Tony Gurney, Cabinet Member for Green Environment and Economy, said: "We're delighted to confirm that the contractors have arrived on site today to begin setting up for what will be an extensive programme of works. Initially, passers-by will not see any work being carried out as the programme will see a massive scaffolding structure erected inside the pool's hall, to allow the contractors access to safely work on the roof."
The internal scaffolding is expected to take a number of weeks to complete, after which work can begin in earnest on the removal and replacement of the damaged roof. The entire programme of repair works, including the subsequent internal reinstatement of the pool area, is expected to take a number of months and is hoped to be completed towards the end of the year.
