Clark Contracts has begun a significant refurbishment project at 250 St Vincent Street, Glasgow, on behalf of Union Property Services.
The initiative involves the comprehensive strip-out, refurbishment, and conversion of the Category B listed former office building into modern, purpose-built student accommodation. Upon completion, the development will be known as Glasgow Citi View and is set to provide 140 rooms, accommodating up to 142 students.
Each student bedroom will be self-contained, featuring an en-suite shower room, kitchenette, and dining space. The lower ground, ground, and first floors are designed to offer a wide array of operational and amenity areas, including a staffed reception, parcel room, student lounge, study and meeting rooms, a gym, laundry facilities, storage, and a versatile, bookable kitchen/dining/games space.
The refurbishment also extends to external works, which will include a full replacement of the roof coverings, essential stonework repairs, and drainage improvements, ensuring the building's heritage is preserved while updating its infrastructure.
Clark Contracts is delivering the scheme in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary design team comprising FaulknerBrowns, Paragon Construction Consultants, MS Construction Consultants, Summers-Inman, Apex Acoustics, Rybka, Narro Associates, and Jensen Hughes. The project is scheduled for completion in time for the 2026/27 academic year.
Strategically located, Glasgow Citi View offers easy access to both the University of Strathclyde and Glasgow Caledonian University, directly addressing the increasing demand for student housing in the city centre and contributing to broader urban regeneration efforts.
Raj Sehgal, Director at Union Property, remarked: "This development represents a significant opportunity to bring a long-vacant listed building back into meaningful use. We're proud to be leading a project that addresses the pressing need for high-quality student accommodation in Glasgow's city centre, while also contributing to its sustainable regeneration. It's been a highly collaborative process with an exceptional team, and we're excited to deliver a scheme that both respects the building's heritage and creates a vibrant new chapter for the site."
Gerry Cummins, Director at Clark Contracts, added: "It is fantastic to be appointed to complete this project with Union Property Services to create much needed student accommodation within Glasgow City Centre. This project will further strengthen our student accommodation portfolio with over 1,300 student beds delivered within central Scotland in recent years."
