Cala Group has announced the appointment of Michael Rice as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective from Monday, 30 June 2025.
The appointment comes at a significant juncture for the business as it enters a new era under fresh ownership.
Cala was acquired in October 2024 by global investment firm Sixth Street and pan-European investor Patron Capital, establishing a strong platform for the company's next phase of strategic expansion across Scotland, the South of England and the West Midlands.
Michael Rice brings extensive financial and strategic expertise to the role, underpinned by a proven track record in both corporate finance and the homebuilding industry. He began his career at KPMG in Ireland before transitioning into a corporate finance role with an investment vehicle.
Most recently, Rice served as CFO at Glenveagh, a major Irish homebuilder he joined in 2017. During his time at Glenveagh, he played a central role in two successful stock market fundraisings and helped steer the company’s evolution from a start-up to a publicly listed business. Under his leadership, Glenveagh expanded significantly, growing to approximately 650 employees and generating €900 million in revenue in 2024.
Kevin Whitaker, Chief Executive of Cala, welcomed the appointment: "Michael's experience in homebuilding, combined with his strategic and corporate finance expertise, makes him an excellent fit for Cala as we work to achieve our ambition of delivering over 4,000 homes annually by 2029. I am delighted to welcome him to the team and look forward to the contribution he will make to our business."
Michael Rice said: "I'm thrilled to be joining Cala at such an exciting time in its journey. The company has a strong reputation for quality and integrity, and I’m looking forward to working with the leadership team to help shape and deliver the next phase of growth and strategic priorities. With the backing of Sixth Street and Patron Capital, Cala is well-positioned to build on its success and continue providing exceptional homes across the UK."
