The first major milestone in Aberdeen's £50 million beachfront transformation was officially marked on 15 July with the opening of the newly redeveloped Broadhill.

Dignitaries gathered at the site to celebrate the completion of the first phase of the city’s ambitious regeneration project. In attendance were Councillor Martin Greig, Lord Provost Councillor David Cameron, Richard Park, Chief Executive of hub North Scotland, and Graeme Lawtie, Operations Director at Robertson Construction Eastern.

Delivered by Robertson Construction Group on behalf of hub North Scotland the five-hectare Broadhill site has undergone a comprehensive makeover.

The redesign includes new access steps, footpaths, viewpoints, dry-stone walls, timber and concrete seating and extensive landscaping. More than 10,000 trees, shrubs, and ground vegetation have been planted to enhance biodiversity and ecological value in the area.


The redevelopment of Broadhill is part of the largest upgrade to Aberdeen’s beachfront in 35 years. Work is already progressing on a new beach park and events field, also being delivered by Robertson. The improvements to Broadhill were completed in time to serve as a prime viewing spot for this year’s Tall Ships Races, which take place from 19–22 July.

Lord Provost said: "This is an exciting occasion to toast with the first part of the beachfront works finished. As thousands of people come into the city for the Tall Ships Races, the revamped Broadhill with additional seating and a viewpoint will be a prime place to watch the vessels sail into the harbour as well as the spectacular Red Arrows display."
