Enabling Works Begin For £31.5m Balmuildy Primary Transformation

Construction of Bishopbriggs' new £31.5 million Balmuildy Primary School has taken a significant step forward as essential enabling works commence this summer, strategically timed during the school holidays to minimise disruption.

These preparatory activities will pave the way for the main build to officially begin in August.

Teams from main contractor Morgan Sindall Construction are currently on site, with works expected to conclude before the school reopens in mid-August. This initial phase involves the crucial diversion of telecoms infrastructure within the school grounds, the creation of a new construction access point off Stirling Drive, and the installation of new drainage connections to the south-west of the site. Temporary Heras fencing is also being erected to support these operations and facilitate tarmac repairs.

East Dunbartonshire Council has partnered with hub West Scotland and Morgan Sindall Construction for the project.

Stuart Parker, Managing Director of Morgan Sindall Construction Scotland, highlighted the significance of the project. "It's great to once again work with hub West Scotland and East Dunbartonshire Council to deliver this new educational facility," he remarked. "Schools are more than just buildings – they're the foundation where future generations will learn, grow, and discover their potential, so it's always a real privilege to create a lasting legacy that will serve the community for decades to come. We'll be engaging with the local community throughout the project to help bring them on the journey with us – we really want to add as much value as we can to the area."

Iain Marley, Chief Executive of hub West Scotland, also expressed enthusiasm for entering the delivery phase. "This investment will further enhance the Council's established excellence in the provision of education services by creating inspiring, sustainable and flexible high-quality learning environments," he commented. "The project will also deliver significant long-term value to local communities through employment, training, a project-specific education programme and strong promotion of opportunities for local businesses."
