Thomas Johnstone Ltd has been appointed as the main contractor for the significant redevelopment of the historic clubhouse at Prestwick Golf Club.
This project marks a pivotal moment for the Club as it prepares to celebrate its 175th anniversary in 2026.
The clubhouse, originally constructed in 1868 – the same year Thomas Johnstone Ltd was founded – holds a prominent position overlooking the first tee and 18th green. This shared heritage adds a unique significance to the contractor's involvement in transforming the building's upstairs area into a world-class facility. Approved by South Ayrshire Council in late 2024, the plans include relocating and expanding the restaurant for enhanced course views, constructing a new first-floor stairway, and upgrading sanitary facilities.
Approved by South Ayrshire Council in late 2024, the plans will transform the upstairs area of the clubhouse into a world-class facility. Key elements of the refurbishment include relocating and expanding the restaurant to provide improved views across the course, constructing a new stairway to the first floor, and upgrading and enlarging the sanitary facilities.
TJL's in-house manufactured joinery division is also contributing to the project, producing several bespoke pieces for the refurbished spaces. This includes a custom-built reception desk and other high-quality joinery items designed to complement the building's heritage while meeting modern standards of functionality and finish.
While the upper floor will be closed throughout the 2025 season to allow works to proceed, the Club's Smoke Room and Dining Room will remain open to members and visitors, ensuring continued hospitality during the construction period.
Rob McGuire, Club Secretary at Prestwick Golf Club, commented, "We are delighted to be working with Thomas Johnstone Ltd as the principal contractor for our Clubhouse Redevelopment Project. With a distinguished track record in high-quality construction and fit-out projects across the UK, Thomas Johnstone Ltd brings a wealth of expertise and a reputation for excellence that aligns perfectly with our vision for the project."
"We're honoured to be delivering this important project for Prestwick Golf Club," said David Haddow, Joint Managing Director at Thomas Johnstone Ltd. With our experience in heritage buildings and high-quality fit-out, we look forward to helping bring the Club's vision for a world-class facility to life in time for this landmark anniversary."
With 157 years of experience delivering high-quality construction and bespoke fit-out projects, Thomas Johnstone Ltd is proud to support Prestwick Golf Club in this next chapter of its rich history.
