Glasgow City Heritage Trust Secures Council Funding

Glasgow City Council has approved a total of £290,000 in funding for the Glasgow Building Preservation Trust (GBPT) and the Glasgow City Heritage Trust (GCHT) for the upcoming 2025/26 financial year.

This significant investment underlines the council's commitment to protecting and enhancing the city's rich built heritage.

Both trusts serve as crucial channels for residents and community groups seeking assistance and financial support to invest in Glasgow's historic assets. They also play a pivotal role as key partners within the independent Built Heritage Commission, a body established last year to unite organisations across Glasgow in safeguarding the city's historic environment and maximising its economic, cultural, and social value.

For the 2025/26 financial year, the GBPT will receive £50,000 in core funding. The GCHT will receive a total of £240,000, comprising £50,000 in core funding and an additional £190,000 in grant funding. Both trusts also receive annual funding from Historic Environment Scotland.

Councillor Ruairi Kelly, Convener for Built Heritage and Development at Glasgow City Council, highlighted the trusts' vital role: "These Trusts are key partners for the council and the city in the work done to protect and develop Glasgow's built heritage," he stated. "The funding now approved for the next year will allow them to continue the very valuable work that they do in what can be a challenging environment for heritage buildings – work that is important economically and culturally, and in terms of preserving our unique built heritage and identity."
