Demolition Looms For Former Dundee School Buildings

Construction News Image
Two existing Dundee school buildings, Braeview Academy and Craigie High, could be demolished following the upcoming opening of the new Greenfield Academy campus and secondary school.

The current Braeview Academy and Craigie High sites will become vacant in August this year when pupils and staff relocate to the state-of-the-art facilities at Greenfield Academy. The new school is a key part of the £100 million Drumgeith Campus, representing the largest investment in education, sport, and community provision in the city.

Dundee City Council's Fair Work, Economic Growth and Infrastructure Committee is scheduled to consider a report on Monday, April 21st, seeking approval to initiate the procurement process for the demolition of both Braeview and Craigie High buildings.

Councillors will be informed that once formal tenders are received, any demolition contracts exceeding £500,000 in value will be brought back to the committee for final approval.

Committee convener Councillor Steven Rome stated: "These demolitions would be a sign to everyone that new developments and investment are taking place for the future. Once council buildings are vacated, we also have a duty to ensure public safety, so demolitions are also very important from that aspect."
